Digital Storytelling - Showcase

This week will focus on reflection, sharing and showcasing your finalized digital stories. The process will bring closure to the course and to your work with the digital storytelling project. It will provide opportunities for you to reflect on your personal and professional growth with media and digital literacies through this year, the Digital storytelling project work, your blogging and media production experiences.

At the end of a course, year or event, it is always important to reflect and review. As part of this final review there are a few elements to consider and complete.
  • The course FEEDBACK ON TEACHING will be completed during part of the class period.
  • You can provide insights on future course directions with a STOP, START, CONTINUE activity.
  • You will also be asked for a 'quotable quote' or soundbite of information, ideas, or thoughts about MDL4000 as words of inspiration to those who plan to take the course in the future.

Digital Storytelling Showcase

A reflection from the Digital Storytelling Center caught my attention and provides some insight as we conclude the digital storytelling process. The quote below is part of an article written by Sue Wallingford.
The complete article titled The Story Never Ends and the digital story videos Bits and Pieces & Life Goes On can be found on the Story Center site.

"The stories themselves called for deep personal exploration, told and retold as photos, clips of video, and words found their way on storyboards in order to create a cohesive narrative. Feelings of frustration, doubt, and discomfort arose as we all navigated the technical challenges posed by this unfamiliar medium.

Then, the final day arrived, and we were putting our finishing touches on our pieces. The clock ticked as we rushed to complete our videos in order to share them with the group.

Not until we finally sat down did I realize the most important part of this process: to share and be witnessed by others as each of us told of the joys and struggles of our life’s journey."

"The process that digital storytelling offers as an art form gives the creator an opportunity to find meaning in life’s journey. I know I'm not finished using this medium to express myself as I continue along my own journey, and I am happy I have found such a powerful way to do so.

 The story never ends . . . "

Show and Share

The final class will be an opportunity for you to share and finalize your digital storytelling project. Through a sharing and showcase process, you will bring closure to this work. As with many digital and media projects, there is no real end unless someone dictates that there needs to be an end. This is the END point for this task.

However, it is also the beginning of your ongoing adventures with digital media and technology in the classroom.
  • There will be time for a showcase of stories. Those who wish to share their stories with their classmates will be given an opportunity to do so. Sign up on the whiteboard when you arrive in class.
  • Through this process, you will receive affirmations and responses from your classmates about your work on the digital storytelling project. After each 'showcase' viewers will be asked to jot down some positive observations and insights from your production, with a focus on image, sound, transitions, text features, moving images, pacing, and engagement with the message related in the production.
